After suffering a minor hand sprain, I went to light a fire one night and realized how difficult it is to use some butane lighters that you have to pull a trigger and slide a lever at the same time. While this is not a difficult for someone who has properly functioning hands, it can be difficult if you have hand problems.
I wondered why the butane was necessary since I was lighting a gas log that had its own fuel. After eliminating the fuel, the piezoelectric spark generator still required a lot of effort to operate. I saw a gas grill lit by pushing a button on an igniter that was powered by one AAA battery.
I speculated if the same igniter would work in a handheld lighter for gas logs, fireplace starters, and grilles that do not have built-in electronic igniters. And thus 
was born.
